How It Works
Deploy
Aurum remediation modules are positioned at strategic ocean and coastal locations selected for the highest documented concentrations of microplastics and mercury.
Capture
Each module continuously draws seawater through precision capture media, physically collecting microplastics and chemically binding mercury at the molecular level.
Measure
Onboard flow meters, load cells, and sensor arrays record captured mass, water volume, and system health — every data point timestamped and cryptographically signed.
Verify
Authenticated data transmits to our secure cloud system. Numbers are confirmed against laboratory analysis and reviewer approval before any figure appears publicly.

The Problem
Microplastics — plastic fragments under 5mm — have infiltrated every layer of the marine environment. They enter the food chain through filter feeders, accumulate in fish tissue, and have been detected in human blood. Unlike macroplastic debris, microplastics cannot be collected by conventional means.
Once in the ocean, inorganic mercury converts to methylmercury — a potent neurotoxin that bioaccumulates up the food chain. Concentrations can be 1 million times higher in large predatory fish than in surrounding water, making high-seafood diets a primary human exposure route.
Existing ocean cleanup approaches — surface booms, trawl nets — are designed for visible macroplastic. The vast majority of ocean plastic by count is invisible to these methods. Effective remediation requires filtration at the micron scale, in-situ and continuously.

Two-Stage Verification
During active collection, modules report estimated capture based on flow volume and particle sensor data. When cartridges are recovered, dry weight differential provides the verified mass that updates our public counters.
Lab-Confirmed Capture
Mercury figures are marked estimated until third-party laboratory analysis confirms the mass of mercury bound in recovered capture media. We do not publish final mercury totals until lab confirmation is received.

Each public metric carries a visible data quality status — from Live Estimate to Lab Confirmed. Our admin team cannot publish verified totals without reviewer approval and an immutable audit record.
